DISM /RestoreHealth Fails with Error 0x800f081f: How to Find a Compatible Repair Source

Hello everyone,

DISM returns error 0x800f081f when running /RestoreHealth, indicating that Windows cannot locate the source files needed to repair the component store. What should I check to confirm the installed Windows edition, version, build, and servicing level? How can I identify a matching installation image or repair source and configure DISM to use it without introducing version or compatibility mismatches?

Many thanks!

    Hello,

Thank you for reaching out with your question.

First of all, if you want to check your OS Build version, you can go to Settings > System > About > Windows Specifications and see OS build.

What comes to my mind are a few possible solutions to fix DISM error:

    • Try also running System File Checker tool via Terminal (using administrator rights) sfc /scannow.
    • Reinstall current version of Windows keeping your apps, files and settings via Settings > System > Recovery > Fix problems using Windows Update. If you don't see this option, your current version of Windows may not support it.
    • In-place upgrade using Windows ISO file. You can download ISO file and do in-place upgrade without losing your data also.
    • Use DISM with Windows ISO as offline source. You can also mount ISO and run DISM with specific source. Example command: DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth /Source:WIM:D:\sources\install.wim:1 /LimitAccess (if inside ISO sources folder you see install.esd, change accordingly /Source:ESD:D:\sources\install.esd:1. The number at the end of the path selects the edition of Windows (Home, Pro) - you can check and change accordingly using DISM /Get-WimInfo /WimFile:D:\sources\install.wim)
