Microsoft Edge is a web browser. Perhaps your email app is receiving junk messages.

If your email app is automatically sending those messages to the Spam or Junk folder, then it's doing its job. There's nothing more for you to do. No one can prevent someone from sending messages to you, just as no one can prevent someone from coming up to you on a crowded street to say 'Hi'.

If you receive spam that reaches your Inbox, you should use your email app's own controls to mark it as Spam. This helps to teach the app to recognize that message, so it will eventually go to your Spam or Junk folder automatically.

Block the unwanted site through Edge’s site notification permissions, because these alerts are not email and the control is located under site permissions rather than on the notification itself.

    Block the notifications

    1. Open Microsoft Edge.
    2. Select ⋯ (Settings and more) in the upper-right corner.
    3. Go to Settings → Privacy, search, and services → Site permissions → All sites.
    4. Select the unfamiliar site—possibly the one containing “privat,” “vis,” or “drive.”
    5. Find Notifications and change it to Block.
    6. Repeat this for every suspicious or unfamiliar site.

Alternatively, while the offending site is open, select the site information/lock icon to the left of the address bar, then set Permissions for this site → Notifications → Block. Website notifications can appear in the lower-right corner and continue even when Edge is closed.^1^

Do not click the alerts or any buttons claiming that the computer is infected, that a subscription must be renewed, or that you must call a telephone number.

If they open as browser windows or tabs

For advertisements that open inside Edge rather than appearing in the Windows notification area:

    1. Open Edge → ⋯ → Settings.
    2. Select Privacy, search, and services → Site permissions.
    3. Under Content, open Pop-ups and redirects.
    4. Turn on Blocked (recommended).
    5. Remove unfamiliar sites from any pop-up Allow list.

Edge’s pop-up blocker does not block advertisements embedded within a webpage, but it does block websites from automatically opening separate windows, tabs, or overlays.^2^

    If the alerts continue

    1. Check extensions: Open Edge → ⋯ → Extensions → Manage extensions. Turn off all extensions. If the alerts stop, re-enable extensions one at a time and remove the one that causes them.
    2. Update Edge: Open Edge → ⋯ → Settings → About Microsoft Edge and install any offered update.
    3. Scan Windows: Open Windows Security → Virus & threat protection, update the security intelligence, and run a Full scan. If unwanted software persists, Microsoft also recommends a Microsoft Defender Offline scan.^3^
    4. If a pop-up freezes Edge, right-click Start → Task Manager → Processes, right-click Microsoft Edge, and select End task. Reopen Edge without interacting with the pop-up.^4^
