A family of Microsoft suites of integrated development tools for building applications for Windows, the web, mobile devices and many other platforms. Miscellaneous topics that do not fit into specific categories.
A Visual Studio Enterprise (Standard) subscription supports Microsoft 365 Apps for enterprise as a nonrenewable 12-month benefit for eligible VL, Azure, or Retail subscriptions, but Microsoft currently states that activation of this benefit is temporarily unavailable.[^1^](https://learn.microsoft.com/visualstudio/subscriptions/[Subscription ID] "Microsoft 365 apps for enterprise in Visual Studio subscriptions")
Check your exact entitlement
- Sign in to the Visual Studio Subscriptions portal using the account to which the subscription is assigned.
- Open Subscriptions and verify that the subscription is Visual Studio Enterprise (Standard).
- Open Benefits and look for Microsoft 365 apps for enterprise.
- If activation is available, select:
- Get code
- Activate
- Create the requested Microsoft 365 user ID
- Select Start Setup
- In the Office portal, select Install
The offer is licensed for production use and lasts 12 months from activation. It does not renew, even when the Visual Studio subscription lasts longer.[^1^](https://learn.microsoft.com/visualstudio/subscriptions/[Subscription ID] "Microsoft 365 apps for enterprise in Visual Studio subscriptions")
Eligibility depends on the subscription channel:
| Subscription | Microsoft 365 Apps benefit |
|---|---|
| Visual Studio Enterprise (Standard): VL, Azure, Retail | 12-month, nonrenewable |
| Enterprise with GitHub Enterprise: VL | 12-month, nonrenewable |
| Enterprise NFR | Not available |
| Enterprise monthly cloud subscription | Not available |
| MSDN Platforms | Not available |
If the benefit tile is absent, check Downloads separately. That page only displays software included with your particular subscription; not every Visual Studio subscription includes every benefit or download.[^2^](https://learn.microsoft.com/visualstudio/subscriptions/[Subscription ID] "Visual Studio Subscriptions portal")
Microsoft 365 E5 developer sandbox is separate
If by “M365 package” you mean a Microsoft 365 E5 developer sandbox, that is not an ordinary software download. An eligible Visual Studio Professional or Enterprise standard subscriber must join the Microsoft 365 Developer Program and provision the separate sandbox.^3^
From Visual Studio → My Benefits, select the Microsoft 365 Developer Program benefit, enroll, and then use Set up E5 subscription in the Developer Program dashboard. Eligibility does not mean that an existing production Microsoft 365 tenant is converted into a developer sandbox.^4^
Downloading an installation package
Administrators can use the Office Deployment Tool (ODT) to download Microsoft 365 Apps installation files and control products, languages, updates, and installation behavior.^5^ However, downloading installation files does not replace the need for an eligible Microsoft 365 Apps license.
If your Enterprise Standard subscription is eligible but the tile is missing—or activation remains blocked by the stated technical issue—open Get Help in the Visual Studio Subscriptions portal for subscription/account support rather than treating it as a Downloads-page failure.[^2^](https://learn.microsoft.com/visualstudio/subscriptions/[Subscription ID] "Visual Studio Subscriptions portal")
