Microsoft Visual C++ v14 Redistributable (x86) 14.51.36247 cannot be installed or removed. Setup reports that the older Microsoft Visual C++ 2022 X86 Minimum Runtime cannot be removed because vc_runtimeMinimum_x86.msi is missing from the Package Cache.

I keep getting the attached pop up when i log in

    Hi @Andrea Stretars ,

Thank you for reaching out and for providing the details.

From the information you've shared, the issue appears similar to cases where the existing Microsoft Visual C++ 2015-2022 Redistributable (x86) installation is in an inconsistent state. In this condition, Windows may be unable to either repair, uninstall, or install a newer version of the redistributable because installer registration or cached installation files are missing or corrupted.

Could you please try the following steps?

    1. Download the Microsoft Program Install and Uninstall troubleshooter from Microsoft (If the download is blocked by your browser, you may need to select Keep or Keep anyway to save the file. Some systems also display a Windows SmartScreen warning before launching the troubleshooter. If this occurs, select More info followed by Run anyway to start the tool.)
    2. Run the troubleshooter and select Uninstalling.
    3. Select the affected version 14.44.35211 entry (select the correct older version of x86 in your device). Depending on how the package is displayed, the entry may appear as: -Microsoft Visual C++ 2022 X86 Minimum Runtime – 14.44.35211 -Microsoft Visual C++ 2022 X86 Additional Runtime– 14.44.35211 Select the affected Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable (x86) entry (in your case it is Microsoft Visual C++ 2022 X86 Minimum Runtime)
    4. Allow the troubleshooter to detect and remove the affected installer entry.
    5. Restart Windows.
    6. Download and install the latest supported packages directly from Microsoft
    7. Open Settings > Apps > Installed apps and confirm that both packages are listed successfully. Then retry the application that requires the Visual C++ runtime.

If the issue continues, please also provide the relevant %TEMP%\dd_vcredist_x86_* installation log. Microsoft identifies those files as the relevant VC++ Redistributable installation logs.

If you found my response helpful or informative, I would greatly appreciate it if you could follow this guide for your confirmation.

    Thank you.

Remove the broken Microsoft Visual C++ 2022 X86 Minimum Runtime installer record with Microsoft’s Program Install and Uninstall troubleshooter, restart Windows, and then reinstall the latest supported x86 redistributable.

    Repair the broken installer record

The missing vc_runtimeMinimum_x86.msi matches the documented “older version can’t be removed” condition, where Windows Installer cannot access the cached package for the previous runtime.^1^

    1. Download and run Microsoft’s Program Install and Uninstall troubleshooter.^2^
    2. Select Uninstalling.
    3. Select the affected entry, normally:
      • Microsoft Visual C++ 2022 X86 Minimum Runtime – 14.xx.xxxxx
      • If necessary, repeat the process for the corresponding X86 Additional Runtime entry.
    4. Allow the troubleshooter to remove or repair the invalid Windows Installer record.
    5. Restart Windows.

This is also the accepted resolution for the same upgrade to 14.51.36247 when an older cached MSI cannot be found.^3^

    Reinstall the supported x86 runtime

    1. Download Microsoft’s current x86 package: https://aka.ms/vc14/vc_redist.x86.exe
    2. Right-click vc_redist.x86.exe and select Run as administrator.
    3. Complete the installation and restart if requested.
    4. Open Settings → Apps → Installed apps and verify that Microsoft Visual C++ 2015–2022 Redistributable (x86) is present.

Microsoft recommends the latest supported v14 redistributable for applications built with Visual Studio 2017 and later; the architecture must match the application, so the x86 package is required even on 64-bit Windows when the application is 32-bit.^4^

Do not download an individual vc_runtimeMinimum_x86.msi from an unofficial site, and do not manually delete entries from C:\ProgramData\Package Cache or the registry.

If the troubleshooter cannot remove the entry

Use the installer log to identify the exact old runtime version:

    1. Press Win+R, enter %TEMP%, and select OK.
    2. Find the newest files beginning with:
      • dd_vcredist_x86_
      • dd_vcredist_x86_..._vcRuntimeMinimum_x86
    3. Search them for Error 1714, System Error 1612, or vc_runtimeMinimum_x86.msi.
    4. Note the exact old version named in the error.
    5. Download that exact older redistributable from Microsoft’s Dev Essentials downloads, run it to uninstall the old version, and then install the current x86 package. This is Microsoft’s documented alternative when the cached MSI for an older version is missing.^1^

If the sign-in popup remains after the runtime installs successfully, another application or software updater is launching the installer at sign-in. Check Task Manager → Startup apps for the updater associated with the popup and disable only that startup item, or update/uninstall its parent application. If the popup is initiated by Visual Studio Installer, collect the setup logs and submit them through Visual Studio Installer → Report a problem.^5^
