I am having issues with edge not opening at all after updates. This issue I think started around version 152

I have a working version using 150.4078.144 with no issues so I have top keep rolling back to this version updates despite Group policy edited to no updates etc.

Can you help as to where to look to see where the issue lies as would like to update for security etc.

Note

all previous updates to 150 etc all worked fine

Hi, I’d start with the crash log to find out why the newer version fails.

With the newer Edge installed, try opening it, then press Win + R >> type eventvwr.msc >> Windows Logs >> Application.

Find an Application Error mentioning msedge.exe at that time. Please share its faulting module name, exception code, and application version. If there’s no matching error, let me know.

Since Edge works on version 150.4078.144 but stops opening after updating to version 152, this may be related to the newer version or something in the existing Edge profile or system configuration. I’d try to identify the cause before continuing to roll back, especially since you want to keep security updates enabled.

Here are a few things to check:

    1. Test with a temporary profile: Open Command Prompt and run: msedge.exe --user-data-dir="%TEMP%\EdgeTestProfile" If Edge opens this way, the issue may be related to your regular profile or its settings. Check Windows Event Viewer: Open Event Viewer, go to Windows Logs > Application, and look for errors at the time Edge fails to launch. Check for msedge.exe and any faulting module details. Check for command-line policies: Open edge://policy if you can launch Edge, or review the applied policies through Group Policy. A policy change may not prevent every update mechanism from running. Try Microsoft Edge Repair: Go to Settings > Apps > Installed apps > Microsoft Edge > Modify > Repair, if that option is available. This normally preserves your browser data. Check security software: Review antivirus or endpoint protection logs for anything blocking the newer Edge executable.

I’d also report the issue through Microsoft’s official Edge support channels with the exact version, Windows build, and any Event Viewer error. Avoid staying on an older version indefinitely, since that can leave you exposed to security vulnerabilities.
