Microsoft retired the E-Tree program starting July 4, 2025 due to limited participation. This is why it disappeared from MSN Weather. It cannot be downloaded, reinstalled, or added back to the page.

This is not a problem with your laptop or Microsoft Edge. Microsoft confirmed that trees already completed through the program would still be planted and cared for.

You can still support environmental causes by donating Microsoft Rewards points.

John Eberhardt, my e-tree button disappeared this morning on my MSN weather widget and I've exhausted attempts to restore it so I can continue to use it. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

My e-Tree stopped working at some stage quite a while ago, but I was able to get it back despite the notice of discontinuation. Now it has disappeared all of a sudden again. Is this really the end? So many trees have been planted, is there really insufficient interest in this wonderful program? How much does it cost to run, and aren't the benefits worth the costs? If it isn't well known enough, why not advertise it broadly?

Just saw the below, which may explain why we still saw the e-Tree. But the points no longer count, so the trees are not planted ...

Discontinuation of the Program

Microsoft officially retired the E-tree program on July 4, 2025 due to limited user engagement. Any unfinished progress after this date would not result in tree planting, though trees completed before the retirement date were still planted and are being cared for by the Eden Reforestation Project Microsoft+2. Despite the program’s end, the E-tree interface may still appear in MSN Weather or Windows Widgets, showing point accumulation and virtual tree growth. This is likely an outdated feature that has not been fully removed, and completing trees after the retirement date will not result in real trees being planted Microsoft+1.
